Even More Harrington Notes
Part 5 : Betting before the flop. If not followed correctly this is the reason most people get into trouble.
If you have QQ UTG you'll run into someone who has AA or KK 10% of the time.
He explains why two unsuited high cards without an Ace is just an ok hand on page 225.On page 232 he explains how people misplay Aces...do not slowplay them !!! About one time in 24 when you hold KK at a full table someone will be holding AA.
When people see you showing down strong hand they will begin to believe those are the only hand you play.
As a tournament or SNG plays out, you want to pay attention to the size of an initial raise that will cause players at your table to fold.
Remember, AK is a nice hand but you're an underdog to a simple pair of fours.
Value Betting : betting just half the pot blends in nicely with continuation bets and probe bets. It's serves as a good way to disguise strength. When you bet half the pot, you need to win only one-third of your bets to break even. If you make continuation bets of one-fourth of the pot you need to win one time in four to break even. Randomize your bets to 40 % - 70 % of the pot to mix it up. Continuation bets work best against one player, are less effective against two, and downright dangerous against three or more.
Players in late position that call an early position raise usually indicate low to medium pairs. Pg 280
Remember when you suffer a bad beat, only your bad luck is visible - your good luck often slips by unnoticed.
The rest of the notes of this book will be up this weekend.
